Brest: Université de Bretagne Occidentale. Mémoire de maîtrise anglais, 2003. 122 p. ill.; 30 cm.

This is a study of Thoreau’s essay "On the duty of Civil Disobedience" : its views on the relations between the individual and the state, the implications of civil disobedience, the concepts of "higher law", "education", "wise minority".

Gandhi and King appear to have used Thoreau’s book essentially as an intellectual credential for their own views.
